About the best IPADid this back in about 2005. Did according to instructions, and came out strong and bitter but with real character. Even better than the Coopers IPA. Top drop! |

Needs work1st batch made according to instructions with Safale S-04 yeast. Made quite a nice, but non-descript beer. Low on bitterness, hops, strength and character; not sure why it is classed as an IPA - more like an amber ale. 2nd batch was made with a high attenuating yeast to increase the (perceived) bitterness, water reduced to total 16 liters and 20g of fuggles hops added (boiled 5 minutes). This made a very nice beer, closer to what an IPA should be. 16 liters (just over 15l in the bottle) for $36 + hops and special yeast makes it an expensive kit. |

Fresh IPAAdded 200g amber grain and 300g dextrose to this (boiled for 10 mins with 10g fuggles), then dry hopped 20g fuggles to the fermenter. Used WLP007 Dry English ale yeast. This is a nice beer, smooth & malty with a nice burst of hop aroma to balance the malt. Not as bitter as I expected though. For future brews I would bump up the fuggles to about 20g boiled for 20 minutes with the adjuncts. I'm beginning to think ESB are cutting back on the ingredients with these wort packs, the OG is always lower than expected (usually ~1040 to 20L) and there is not as much hoppiness going on with some styles that need it (like this one, and the APA). Other than that, a nice beer but getting costly at around $40+. |

So easy to make, pour into the fermentor, pitch yeast, close lid. Sit down and open a beer. Fermented at around 19 degrees with White Labs Pacific Ale (WLP041). Took a while to carbonate and for the flavours to settle down but now it's a great drop, complex flavours, rounded mouthfeel. |
